How Your Zodiac Sign Shapes Your Voting

It’s almost election time again, and this year promises to be one of the most contentious, monumental presidential elections in recent history. The stakes are high, voting has become more complicated than ever, and the news cycle offers no reprieve from electoral uncertainties.

For the astrologically inclined, the lead-up to voting day is a great time to find comfort and perspective by looking to the stars. Astrology may not create the change we want to see, but it’s a powerful ally for trying to understand the nature of this election, the different types of voters, and how we can be our best in this tumultuous time.

With Mercury in retrograde until November 3rd, election day, it’s reasonable to think the upcoming week is going to get messy. Expect communication breakdowns and technology issues and be prepared to cope.

How each of cope as individuals can be better understood through our Zodiac signs, so to help you navigate these muddy waters we have provided a breakdown below of how each sign approaches voting and political engagement. Make a plan, keep calm, and vote!

Aries (March 21 - April 19)

Aries may tend to act on impulse, but as far as leadership is concerned they can be passionately opinionated about who would do the best job.

They will follow this passion to the ballot box, and in fact, Aries are likely to be early voters, exercising their right as soon as it’s available. Whether this is by mail, early voting, or on polling day, you can expect Aries to be first in line.

Taurus (April 20 - May 20)

As a sign deeply rooted in Earth energies, Tauruses are not known for moving quickly. In contrast to Aries, they are likely to end up voting at the last minute. Better late than never is certainly relevant here, but it’s important for Tauruses to avoid becoming complacent and to embrace the potential for change, which does not come as naturally for Taurus.

As Tauruses benefit from structure and routine, take this opportunity to make a habit out of early voting. Tauruses can also take longer to absorb new information, so start learning about potential candidates early to be ready to make your decision come election day. Look for candidates that reflect your sign qualities – dedicated, reliable, and steady.

Gemini (May 21 - June 20)

Geminis are forever drawn towards deeper understandings of the world around them, and just as passionate about sharing what they know. Whether they are engaging in advocacy for a particular candidate, or just trying to get more people to the polls, they are excellent communicators and will use their voice to foster greater political engagement. When it comes to the somewhat complicated process of actually voting, however, Geminis may struggle a bit to navigate the red tape.

Rules may not be the Gemini’s favorite thing, but when it comes to voting they must be 100% clear on the how, where, and when. Make a voting plan, double-check the details, and stick to it. If you’re voting by mail, that means making sure you have your state’s regulations down and are in full compliance (even down to the ink color). For in-person, make sure you have your ID and anything else your state requires. Plan thoroughly, and there will be no room for unpleasant surprises.

Cancer (June 21 - July 22)

As a sign that generally has its house in order at all times, Cancers likely don’t have too many concerns come voting season. They have a plan, it’s probably ridiculously practical, and there isn’t much room for error.

What’s important for Cancers this season is to help make sure your family, friends, and maybe even neighbors are just as ready. You may be prepared, but others surely are not, and could benefit from being a part of your plan.

Leo (July 23 - August 22)

Few love to show off their “I Voted” sticker like a Leo. Expect a sticker selfie as soon as they’ve left the voting booth, and probably a bit of a diatribe about why it’s so important to vote.

With other topics this may come off as self-aggrandizing, but when it comes to voting? They’re right! It is important, and they should be proud. As Leos also have a voice that can command the room, this is a great time to use that power to compel others to the poll.

Virgo (August 23 - September 22)

Whereas other signs approach voting from either the head or the heart, Virgos are driven to the polls by both. They will use their analytical prowess to take stock of the candidates, but let their hearts decide who they believe is best.

As Virgos vote from the heart, they tend to vote for the candidate they connect with emotionally. This might mean that voting becomes an emotional experience itself, so be sure to bring a poll pal with you for emotional support.

Libra (September 23 - October 22)

When it comes to choosing between candidates, Libras are the masters of weighing the scales and measuring the difference. They are usually as close to unbiased as it gets, approaching their decision with reason and a fair-play attitude. This doesn’t mean they don’t have conviction, however, as once they decide in favor of a candidate, they’re all in.

Alongside Aries they’ll approach election season with a plan in hand, ready to vote at the first opportunity. As always, double-check your plan! Once everything is settled, use your level head and unbiased perspective to engage with undecided voters and see if you can help them settle on a decision. A good place to start is with family and friends, but you don’t have to stop there!

Scorpio (October 23 - November 21)

In contrast to the level-headed, unbiased Libra, Scorpios are deeply passionate about who they will vote for, and they aren’t afraid to push their position on those around them. When faced with folks who have different political opinions, Scorpios tend to get argumentative and may get frustrated if they can’t get their point across. Civil discourse is a vital component of a healthy democracy, but exercise caution when getting into debates. With opinions more entrenched than ever, sometimes it’s better to just let it be.

Debates aside, Scorpios do tend to be pretty good at getting a measure of a situation, so this year it’s likely they will opt to vote by mail where possible, rather than go out to the polls. Make sure you have your vote-by-mail plan completely verified, and if you haven’t figured out how you will vote yet, now is the time.

Sagittarius (November 22 - December 21)

Sagittarians have an argument to make during election season, but their focus is fixed on the act of voting itself. For Sagittarians, the point is less who you vote for, and more just going out there and doing it. If you aren’t planning on voting, expect the Sagittarians in your life to take issue.

Expect to see a litany social media posts from Sagittarians about getting out to vote and consider sharing them – it’s a message worth spreading. The archer has great aim, and their arrows have great effects. For Sagittarians, it’s a great time to engage family and friends to see how you can help get them to the polls. Consider being their personal poll driver or organize a group vote day. Just be sure to wear a mask!

Capricorn (December 22 - January 19)

Like Libras, Capricorns are more naturally suited to engaging with different, even opposing, political opinions. They differ from Libra where they seek a deeper understanding of the points of view behind political opinions, seeing the act of voting as a reflection of one’s inner self.

Capricorns bring great value to earnest political conversation by focusing on personal perspectives, rather than the opinions they manifest. Find your true voice, and your grounded, pragmatic honesty may break down barriers to understanding others cannot.

Aquarius (January 20 - February 18)

Aquarius falls among the more outwardly passionate signs during the election season. Expect a regular flow of posting leading up to the election on everything from policy to local voting protocols, and potentially even a protest video or two.

If you’re an Aquarius, this election is a great opportunity to get more directly involved in your local elections. Volunteer as a poll worker or organize a voting carpool – anything that puts you right into the action.

Pisces (February 19 - March 20)

Pisces are dynamic dreamers who look at elections as a potential catalyst for beneficial changes. They will already have their voting plan in place, and a sense of how their preferred candidate may bring about the right change.

As a Pisces, you may find your nerves are frayed, and emotions become strained as the election process unfolds. Be sure to make time for self-care! Sometimes this is as simple as taking a walk or doing a 20-minute yoga session, but every moment of self-care goes a long way.
